Barcelona promotes rehabilitation and urban greenery with 3.2 million in grants

Barcelona: .3.2 M in aid for rehabilitating buildings, shops and green partitions. Open until 16/11/2026.

Barcelona City Council has opened a new call for grants to promote the rehabilitation of buildings and the improvement of the urban landscape, with a global investment of 3.2 million euros until 2030. The initiative, managed by the Municipal Institute of Urban Landscape, seeks to strengthen the city’s commitment to sustainability, architectural heritage and quality of life in its neighbourhoods.

Rehabilitation of heritage and improvement of common spaces

Subsidies are oriented to actions on listed or historic estates, and include the restoration of facades, interior courtyards, lobbies and roofs. It can also host projects for the recovery of original architectural elements or the restoration of old elevators, with the aim of preserving the constructive memory of the city without giving up comfort and energy efficiency.

Trades with more coherence and urban appeal

The program also reserves a specific line for commercial establishments, especially emblematic shops, to help them improve their external image and better integrate into the urban environment. Also noteworthy are the aid oriented to the premises that are around the Sagrada Familia, where it is sought to harmonise the relationship between commercial activity and the landscape value of one of the most visited points in the city.

Green walls and roofs: a step towards a sustainable city

Another axis of the program is the rehabilitation of the partitions visible from the public space, transforming them into new functional facades by incorporating thermal insulation, windows or balconies. At the same time, the creation of green roofs and urban gardens on the terraces is encouraged, as well as the naturalization of fences and free spaces, favoring biodiversity and the reduction of urban temperature.

Deadlines and opportunities

The deadline for submitting applications will remain open until November 16, 2026, offering individuals, neighborhood communities and merchants an opportunity to actively participate in the construction of a greener, more sustainable and cohesive Barcelona.
